Title: How are Muslims represented in the Movie Shoot On sight?

Hypothesis: Shoot On sight promotes a typical stereotype of how muslims are being targeted today.

-Media language: Certain scenes on the movie show us different things.
The scenes mis-en-scene matches what is going on throughout the whole movie.
Certain aspects of the film show different things such as the dimly lit lighting shown at times when the scholors are shown in the mosque teaching about terrorism. With contrastingly medium shots and strong lighting showing superior actors making them look magnificant compared to side actors.

-Institution: Focuses on the contemporary arts instititution

-Genre: Crime, Drama and Thriller

-Representation: How are muslims represented in the movie? Are all muslims shown as Terrorists, following the 9/11 and 7/7 bombings?

-Audience: As this movie stars both Hollywood and Bollywood actors it will attract a wide range of target audience.

-Ideology- Shoot On Sight contains many ideological dis-courses, some of these include:

*Racism

The actual movie is based around whether all muslims are terrorists.

*Crime and Punishment

Any person who would be found as a suspect would automatically be questioned by the police. If the suspect is a criminal they would have to be punished by most probably being sentenced to prison.

*Youth/Age

We are shown the younger generation of muslims and their thinking compared to how the elder generation feel and think.

The movie shows men and women working in teh same area of work together heloing each other so we could say that the movie follows femenist ideology, but then we also see scenes where teenage girls are shown negatively and are there to be looked at as sex objects.

-Narrative: Non linear includes flash backs

Media Representations

-Who is being represented?
It would be wrong to just say that the asian community is being represented because not all muslims are asian, so the actual muslim community are being represented more than others .

-In what way?
They are being represented in a negative way with accustations of being terrorists.

-Why is the subject being represented in this way?
The subject is being represented like this to answer the movies tagline question 'Is it a crime to be a muslim'.

-Is the representation fair and accurate?
The representation is not fair and accurate as it is only based around one text.
